Issue Position

Jamaal wants to be a leader in redefining the role government plays in our lives: making it more efficient, compassionate and innovative. Government cannot solve all problems, but it can play a key role in changing our community. While there is much more to that than changing our justice system, changing our justice system is a critical place to start.

As an attorney and a member of our community, Jamaal understands how desperately we need criminal justice reform. He will advocate for bail reform, grand jury reform and the assignment of special prosecutors.

Jamaal is also a champion of increasing access to civil legal assistance--because people need help navigating the courts that deal with landlord-tenant, property and family issues, not just those that deal with criminal justice.
